Here is some introductory information on Scouting!
Scout packs are divided into dens, by grade level, and most of our dens typically meet once per month. Dens meet at the location of their choosing, a community center, home, park, etc. At den meetings, Scouts work together on advancement requirements, that help develop their leadership, understanding of community, self, and the outdoors, as well as having lots of fun!
The pack also meets once per month. Pack meetings are typically held in the Ute Meadows, but are occasionally off-site at a park or other location. At pack meetings, Scouts continue their leadership skills development and overall knowledge enhancement and we also have special guests and activities (for more fun!) We also participate in community service in the area. Previous years pack meeting activities have included: astronomy, a hike at Bear Creek, a visit from Canyon Critters, a Service Project at a local retirement community, pinewood derby, bike safety, minute to win it games, pumpkin drop, and much more!
Scouting at this age is a family activity and siblings, parents, guardians, etc. are encouraged and welcomed to participate in pack meeting events and activities. An adult is required to attend den meetings with their Scout.
Beginning August 1, 2023, all new youth and adult members who join Scouting will be enrolled in a 12-
month membership cycle and BSA will cease prorating fees. Both youth and adults will pay the full annual
membership fee and will renew their membership on the anniversary date of joining Scouting. All proration of membership fees will be eliminated.
Each registered member of the BSA will receive an email notice with a registration renewal link beginning 60 days before the anniversary month they joined Scouting. Unit leaders will receive a copy of the email and should stay engaged in the membership renewal process just like rechartering.
Scouts are required to purchase a uniform (which can usually be worn for a few years, depending on growth spurts!) as well as rank requirement books. Pack 47 will also provide a t-shirt-style uniform for Scouts, when they join the pack.
All membership fees and annual dues go directly to the local council. These fees do not go to our pack. Our pack has only one annual fundraiser to raise funds to support our year round scouting program. This fundraiser is our annual popcorn sales. Participation in this fundraiser helps us keep our pack dues low while still offering excellent programming for our Scouts.
Our pack participates in Family Scouting and welcomes both boys and girls. Scouts in our pack come from all throughout our local area, including those who attend, Coronado, Ute, Mortenson, etc., as well the homeschool community and other local charter and public schools.
